In an intensive outpatient program (IOP), behavioral health clients are able to receive treatment for substance use disorder (SUD) while living in their own home or a sober living environment. Patients in IOPs do not need detox treatment or round-the-clock supervision. IOPs are more intensive than basic outpatient programs, but more flexible than inpatient programs.
IOPs usually include a highly structured routine and require a high number of treatment hours per week. Treatment may include medication, group or individual therapy sessions, case management, and more.
