BestNotes is proud to participate in this year’s National Rural Institute, where our Director of Evaluation Services, Dr. Laura Mills, will be presenting groundbreaking research on a critical but often overlooked topic: Who Gets Worse in Wilderness Therapy for Adolescents?

Drawing on data from over 5,600 adolescents in U.S. wilderness therapy programs, Dr. Mills will explore the 10% of youths who reported health deterioration between admission and discharge. Using binary logistic regression, the study identified key predictors of deterioration—including adoption status, gender, neurodiversity, family functioning, and parent engagement in therapy.

Attendees will:

  • Gain insight into the client and family factors linked to treatment deterioration

  • Learn how to proactively identify at-risk clients

  • Discuss strategies to improve outcomes and tailor care for vulnerable youth

  • Understand how robust client data can be used to inform treatment decisions and quality improvement

Join us in Ballroom C for this important conversation on improving care and outcomes for adolescents in behavioral health treatment.
